CWGC Larch Wood (Railway Cutting) Cemetery

Larch Wood (Railway Cutting) Cemetery te Zillebeke telt 856 Commonwealth graven, waarvan 321 niet geïdentificeerde gesneuvelden. Er staan 82 special memorials voor gesneuvelden waarvan de precieze plaats van het graf niet meer gekend is. Na de Wapenstilstand werden gesneuvelden van een tiental kleinere kerkhoven naar hier overgebracht. Er zijn 21 graven van Royal Flying Corps en Royal Air Force gesneuvelden.

Er ligt o.a. een bemanning van de Handley-Page O/100 Nr 3132 van het 214 Squadron. Deze werd gedurende een nachtbombardement op Brugge, boven de dokken, neergehaald door het afweergeschut. De bemanning bestond uit Capt CG RUSHTON (piloot), Maj J I HARRISSON (schutter) en Lt W J KING (observer).

McCONNELL, Lt Harold Jeffrey McConnell, 98th Sqn RAF, en 5th Bn Royal Irish Rifles, op 31 mei 1918 gesneuveld, hij was 24 jaar. Zijn DH4 werd door luchtafweer neergehaald boven Brugge.

Rudy Van Kerckhoven gaf ons door dat hier nog heel wat andere vliegeniers begraven liggen:

2Lt Dutton en 2Lt H.R. Hart-Davies behoorden tot 48 Squadron en vlogen met Bristol Fighter A7171. 2Lt Hart-Davies overleefde de crash en kwam in krijgsgevangeschap terecht.

Flight Sub-Lieutenant Kendall maakte deel en van 6 Squadron RNAS en vloog met Sopwith Camel N6350.
