In de Eerste Wereldoorlog werd hier door de Fransen een begraafplaats aangelegd voor hun gesneuvelden, en ook de troepen van de Commonwealth gingen deze site gebruiken. Koksijde werd zeer vlug de belangrijkste begraafplaats langs de kust, want na de wapenstilstand werden ook de gesneuvelden van kleinere begraafplaatsen overgebracht naar Koksijde.
Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werden hier slachtoffers van vliegtuigcrashes begraven. Vandaag telt men 1507 graven van de Eerste Wereldoorlog en 154 van de Tweede Wereldoorlog waaronder deze van twee onbekende RAF-bemanningsleden. De Franse graven zijn overgebracht naar Frans grondgebied.
